Storm season kicking off tomorrow with Storm Amy. Looks to be mainly the west that will be affected.

My kids came home from school today and told me they'd heard there would be a hurricane tomorrow. We're on the east coast, so I am hoping their teachers aren't better forecasters than Met Éireann.

Me too normally, but we got quite badly hit with the one in early December last year, damage to roofs, trees down etc. It was a total pain in the ass.

Final? call by Met Eireann and UK Met Office is Orange Warning for wind in Counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim, Donegal, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry and Antrim this afternoon and early tonight.

The warnings are based on forecasted wind speeds, not wokery or witchcraft.

Ah yes the West once again getting a kicking.

Any bets on how long we can expect power to be out?

This one looks like a typical winter storm, the issue being it's not winter; trees are still largely in leaf, and the ground in the area of the storm is saturated from yesterday's deluge.

Getting a bit ridiculous now. We are obsessed with weather in this country. It's a bit windy and wet out there that's it.

Well, you'd expect that on a dedicated weather forum. You're here yourself so presumably obsessed like the rest of us! :D

I am supposed to be driving from Dublin to the West very early tomorrow morning for an event, so the storm is of interest

Plus, some of my relatives down West were without heat, light, water or phone coverage for almost 2 weeks during the last storm

So I guess they can be forgiven for tracking the progress of this latest storm with great interest.

The strongest wind will be the south westerly this afternoon, with a red warning now issued for Donegal county. Westerly winds inland in Connaught will have reduced to 50 Km/h or less by early morning. There will be gusty squalls though. Road closures or hazards from falling trees and flooding will be something to look out for. Maybe check Google Maps before travelling.

84,000 premises without power, apparently. It was pretty grim here around 3-4 pm but it's calmed down now. I'm currently settling in to a new Netflix series called I Can't Believe I Still Have Power.

Power just back on here after 3 hours. Entire town was out. Trees down all over the shop, but i suspect that would have been worse if not for Storm Éowyn bringing the bulk of them down earlier in the year. Road to the next town blocked between trees down and flooding in several spots. The actual border is the worst as no one takes responsibility fur the drainage there.

Still, both fires lit and hopefully the power will stay on.

We lost power around 5pm. Estimated restoration is 5pm tomorrow. I have a generator running the fridge/freezer, some lights and the microwave. I also have a mobile two-ring gas unit to do some basic cooking. Microwaveable dinners were on the menu tonight.

Hopefully it'll come back before that. Unlike last January we had gas heaters and cooking stoves ready, but it looks like they can be left till next time.

I'm in West Cork for a few days - subject to an 'orange' rain warning since 20:00 this evening.

All we have thus far is fairly light showers - maybe we have been bypassed by the rain?
