Yes I have a monthly as Gaeilge programe on Near FM. Most of my interviews for a good few years now are as Béarla though and for another weekly programme on the station called Global Solidarity and I even broadcast most of my as Béarla Ireland stuff on this programme even if it they're not particularly global news / global news topics. The presenter Tony Fitzsimons is happy to put out most of the interviews I do as Béarla whatever the topic, although I usually stick to several particular topics in the social justice area. I am doing 2 as Gaeilge tomorrow mainly because my next monthly as Gaeilge clár on Near FM is coming up next week and I like buidling the programme Ar Muin na Muice's Youtube channel up.

Regarding politics, if people from P.ie migrate here the ones on the Left will have to adjust to no personal abuse of people on the Right... and visa versa to some extent.

Also, if Boards does end due to financial fallout I think some members who migrate here will find a shocking cultural difference, especially those on the Left. No longer will they be able to gang together in their cancel culture atmosphere against people on the Right and conservatives in order to effectuate bans and create a safe space echo chamber of Liberal ideology.

I got a pm tonight from somebody on the site telling me that whoever is in charge of Politics.ie has approx 2 months to pay / sort out the .ie renewal or the site will lose the .ie address. Apparently the site still is accessible in some ways (if you are very tech savvy) and even if the .ie address is lost the site as it was 1 month ago may be salvagable albeit under a new name / address.

On the one hand I wouldn't like to see a lot of threads lost on the site particularly ones which I myself contributed a lot to (these were mostly in the Culture & Community forum and the Gaeilge forum). On the other hand as as I was saying on the last page of this thread I think that the site became a bit of a toilet.

I suppose I for one would welcome the site being salvaged under a new name / address. The name "Politics.ie" was cathcy I think for many people interested in politics. While I don't think that many people who work in politics generally rated it highly or usually even generally talked about it I think that for a lot average people with a small interest in politics it was something to check out from time to time. The population of the public with a small interest in politics enough to do do Google searches on the broad topic is pretty small I think in saying that.

If the site comes back and has a more serious name and better moderation I could see most or at least a lot of the former toilet-type posters not coming back. I have no reason to believe that the site if it came back would have good moderation though.

For all of his many faults, the site was never what it had been after David Cochrane got rid of it. "Admin2" or whatever she was called was awful and pro-State COVID totalitarianism was off the charts.

I didn't mind him much when he owned the site apart from even then being often disturbed at the ultra lax moderation of the site. I found out later on Facebook that he is / was friends with the posters Cookie Monster and Cyberpan (or however you spell his name I didn't know if it had a meaning) in real life, although I don't remember their real names now off the top of my head and would have to go digging again to remember, and this was after both had come out with crazy shit (the former on rights and gay rights and the latter expressing sexual deviancy over a prolonged period) and that turned me off him.

I don't know. I don't remember looking at the "Guest" stats on it for ages.

I got another pm this morning by the way and my initial post about the site having 2 months is I think wrong - I misread what the guy said to me the first time.

Here is the latest news:

"Seems that it just went pending-delete this morning:

In five days, it should be available to reregister."

If the site is not sorted out in the next 5 days I think the .ie address will be gone for good because it will, I think, cost a fortune to get it back.

A few P.ie posters were already on Boards, and the only update on the domain issues with P.ie I saw was from jmcc, who got a bit of a discussion going on it, only to have a mod close the thread 'for numerous reasons'. If ever there was a forum with a death wish, it must be that one.
