Presidential Election 2025
Re: Presidential Election 2025
I was in at 10.30, according to the women in there they have had less then 5% at that time. One other person was all I saw around the building!
It's going to be a historically low turnout I imagine

Exactly what percentage of the electorate will have seen that? Their impact is not nearly as great as they might think it is.Berties_Horse wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 11:57 am The final push into the political abyss. Connolly will succeed by a comfortable margin.
There must be some way out of here

My sense of duty overcame my sense of disgust - so I just voted, without any enthusiasm.
What a shitshow!

I know - it's funny. Most of them seem stuck in the 1970's and totally oblivious to the dire situation they are in.Publicrealm wrote: ↑Thu Oct 23, 2025 9:02 pm It's nice to see them showing concern for our perilous and isolated position.

Listening to turnout figures on 1 o'clock news, CC's home constituency is currently at 10% broadly in line with the rest of the country, whereas in HH's local patch it is 20%, and 18% in the wider area.
Interesting if that is an early sign that for all CC's momentum, there is some truth to the FG hope that HH's voters are more likely to turn out strongly.

I have been to the polling station vote cast. It's not as quiet as I thought it might be.
That passed the time.
It would have passed in any case.
Yes, but not so rapidly

FG'ers always turn out to vote as much as a despise them whilst communists and socialists tend not to bother despite all their talk.schmittel wrote: ↑Fri Oct 24, 2025 1:33 pm Listening to turnout figures on 1 o'clock news, CC's home constituency is currently at 10% broadly in line with the rest of the country, whereas in HH's local patch it is 20%, and 18% in the wider area.

I cast my vote at 2 pm in what could be termed a "working class constituency" in Dublin
It was much brisker than I expected
Nearly all young people
I was moved into a new constituency and the polling station is miles from my house. There is no parking and it is badly served by public transport. I am an exceptionally good walker, but lots of my elderly neighbours are not voting---too far to walk, polling station in a rather "dodgy" area, no place to park, etc
Whereas my young, fit son is crossing the city to vote tonight after work, snd will have no problem walking the long distance in the dark to the polling station. He is a Connolly supporter.
Re: Presidential Election 2025
Possibly, though our box has traditionally high turnout for to a plethora of party members from the big three.

Bookies odds have shortened for Catherine since last night. The bookies always know.

Just got exit poll surveyed from Ireland Thinks so they’ll probably release the results this evening.
I’m guessing Connolly on first count at about 55-60%.
Personally I think she’s a great candidate but helped by the opposition of Humphries and Gavin.
Humphries is a poor debater and FG being FG decided to go for a smear campaign instead of presenting their own candidate.
And as for Jim Gavin, I know the official line is he resigned because of the rent stuff. We all know the real reason.
White trousers on a farm ?
That’s real criminal activity.

I admire your satirical tendencies, the Burkes have lost all contact with reality & desperate to stay relevant with increasingly deranged publicity stunts.

Re: Presidential Election 2025
Catherine's election might have a positive effect in that Enoch might start picketing the Aras instead of Wilsons school. Catherine would surely have enough Guards to keep Enoch outside the gate.Berties_Horse wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 1:46 am I admire your satirical tendencies, the Burkes have lost all contact with reality & desperate to stay relevant with increasingly deranged publicity stunts.

Pat Leahy's opinion:
Catherine Connolly proved to be an exceptional candidate – poised, disciplined and unflappable.
Winner of election will be president of Blueshirt barristers, Fianna Fáil farmers, lefties and pro-lifers
