You're missing my point, if that situation I outlined was to arise the price of houses would be the least of our problems.

'no more blah blah blah'
Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
A civil war will not occur unless outside influences try to stir unrest. Moreoften that not thats how these things happen.
The GFA outlines the procedure for reunification - if a border poll passes, there might be unrest from unionists but a civil war I think not.
It won't even come to the same scale as the violence during the troubles - some hardcore fanatics might leave to old Blighty, others would look for concessions for their "Northern Irish" identity, those involved in violence would be a very small minority who are actually capable of such.
Unless the UK actively fund and push loyalists to conduct acts of terrorism, we won't see much bar the odd petrol or pipe bomb.
Keep in mind nowadays in the information age, its much easier to catch and prevent terrorists too - it happens all the time, you dont even know about it.

That makes two of us!
A hypothetical what if scenario re a border poll is the least of the problems facing many would be SF voters right now!

Never voted for a right wing party in my life, but I'm done voting for the left.
Will probably vote for whatever local headbanger seems the most amusing next time out.

Sinn Fein will be piling immigrants into the country just like FF and FG so those 230k houses that young people are hoping for will remain a pipe dream.
Demand will always outstrip supply when the demand is endless
Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
This is the first time I've actively considered SF because I like what I hear from many of their more sensible TDs. But then some eejit ruins it for me when the veil slips and I realise some of them are still a bit too 'up the ra' for my liking. My local candidate is a bit rough around the edges too.
FG and FF will never get a vote from me, leaving Greens, Labour, PBP and the Social democrats. I've been badly let down by Clare Daly and her conspiracy theories. Voted for her in the EU elections but never again.
I'll probably go for a mix of GP/Lab/SD depending on the local candidates.

Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
I am not sure who I will vote for. Probably Aontú (more left economically than SF and less woke) or independents.
People always stated for ages that a right-wing economically but liberal social party was the missing piece. They were not aware of the labour party it seems, but now they have FG.
I think a left-wing economical party but one which is somewhat traditional socially would do well. There is a lot of people who want fairer tax and better pay, conditions, social supports and public services but don't support all the woke nonsense of 100 genders and such.

Aren't clearly cronyist
Will address childcare provision in a responsible manner
Will stop awarding BAM contracts that balloon out of control
Will stop focusing on twitter and identity politics and sort out grown up issues
Will be transparent in their consultation phases... then actually do something!

FG 1st and 2nd preference, 3rd to the Labour candidate, then out the door.
Not into parties offering easy solutions to complex problems, or manufactured Twitter outrage.

After the past few days I’d near register just to vote SF.
Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
If FG got rid of Leo I think they would do a lot better. He has a habit of making some rather silly moves. The Zappone "gathering", the "Leo Leak", etc.
Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
I am far from convinced FG are right wing economically. Their contributions to the housing market have been anything but right wing for the last 10 years.Memento Mori wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 5:33 pm People always stated for ages that a right-wing economically but liberal social party was the missing piece. Aontu lol
we could certainly do without their religious nonsense, we are well on the way to ridding ourselves of the theocracy that strangled this country for decades, inviting them back seems backward in the extreme

Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
I remember thinking about Leos comments about RTE staff not abiding by social distancing rules during the presentations when one member of staff was retiring and saying that comment will come back to haunt him. It has now and RTE are sticking in the boot in return for that.
I see a lot of discontent with traditional FG voting families about how the party is now Dublin based and ran when only a few short years ago FG could have held a meeting of their Dublin TDs in a phone box. I'd say Leo will be gone after the next election, it's difficult to see FG actually gaining seats unless FF or the GP pull the plug on the current government before its term ends.

Peadar Tobín was SFs most capable and effective politician, just behind Doherty. He is not some form of bible thumper at all. He basically just disagreed with abortion (as many do) but otherwise was decidedly in the left wing of SF.Hodors Appletart wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 10:12 am Aontu lol

And I also regard people who disagree with bodily autonomy to be relics of a bygone, religious themed, era that has no place in a modern progressive society.

Well, that's almost everyone then, as the vast majority believe there should be some restrictions on things like abortion. Others believe that things like vaccines should be mandatory. Unqualified, sweeping statements like yours almost always serve to make those who utter them look silly. Not to mention disturbingly authoritarian, as religious belief and expression is a human right. Saying people "have no place" in society because they disagree with you is... problematic. Who made you the arbiter of who has, or does not have, a place in society?Hodors Appletart wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 11:34 am And I also regard people who disagree with bodily autonomy to be relics of a bygone, religious themed, era that has no place in a modern progressive society.
