We are a great little country altogether, one should not be talking down Ireland and one should wear the green jersey but fukk me...
Over 130 TFI electric buses (85 in Dublin, 47 in Galway/Limerick) are sitting idle and unused as of March/April 2026 due to a lack of charging infrastructure at depots. These new double-decker electric buses have remained unused for over a year-and-a-half in some cases, with full deployment delayed until mid-to-late 2026.
Idle Fleet: Over 130 new battery-electric buses are parked rather than transporting passengers, including 85 in Dublin and 43+ in Galway and Limerick.
Cause of Delay: The delay is caused by inadequate charging points at depots, not faults in the buses themselves.
Infrastructure Issues: Delays in installing necessary charging infrastructure mean the vehicles cannot be properly powered.
Service Impact: While electric buses are idle, diesel buses continue to operate to maintain schedules, hindering efforts to transition to greener public transport.
Timeline: While some buses are expected to enter service sooner, the bulk of the fleet is anticipated to be on the road by mid-to-late 2026, as noted in reports from
The Irish Independent.
