“Racism” Misnamed?

A couple of issues I’ve read about lately - there was a story about how members of the South Asian community were being “failed” by mental health services as in their community there is a stigma around seeking mental health help.

Then a lovely chap was in tears about how as a gay, black man he is ostracized at home as there is a great deal of homophobia in black, especially African, communities.

Both of these were put down to “institutionalt racism”. Yet surely it is down to a backwards attitude to mental health problems in one minority and anti-gay bigotry in the latter.

Yet were one to highlight that these communities need education and a new way of thinking then there would clearly be an accusation of racism!

There is genuine racism in the world but how can it ever be addressed and resolved if everything involving people of colour is chalked up as racism ? How can you tell where the vile behaviour starts and the genuine areas of criticism begin ??

Racism is a term thrown around willy nilly these days, usually by interest groups looking for money.
