I cannot understand anyone deciding to vote for someone based on someone else's ideas about them.
Why would a journalists opinions (because it is an opinion piece) make anyone vote in any way?
Surely an adult, registered voter would make their own mind up and not vote for a candidate, based on the fact that a journalist doesn't think they should?
Now, if there was an article by a journalist that set out actual facts about the nominee and any history of theirs that is pertinent, voters should take that into consideration along with all other facts they can gather, make a decision about a candidate then, that seems normal. But deciding to vote for someone because they don't like a journalist?
You took that much more seriously than it was meant
I wouldn’t vote for someone just because Kathy didn’t like them (and if you read my post, I didn’t say that), though I would be very, very wary of someone that Kathy endorsed, because she, like most IT opinionists would most certainly not endorse anyone who would be good for the Irish people.

I very much doubt this guy is looking for a "handy number" given his current role and success in it.
Could it be a brand promotion exercise, get more investors in? He has the cash to splash on a presidential campaign he says and his brand is going to come up a lot.
Call me cynical but that's worth a lot of advertising. Good value for a lad most people barely heard of before last week.

I could maybe go along with that if he was seeking institutional investors, but his company is now listed on the Nasdaq, and is very high profile in its field. I can’t see him gaining anything investment wise by running. Even if he won, it wouldn’t create the slightest blip in the VC circles he moves in. I’ve met those people - most of them couldn’t tell Ireland from Scotland, and would be utterly unimpressed by him running, or even winning.
Cause & effect. Gareth must have good reason to get involved in this campaign, he must expect some effect, some benefit. I think we'll learn more as the campaign progresses.
Participants in a survey were asked to rank their preferred choice for president out of five names listed.
Fine Gael’s Mairead McGuinness led the field on 29 per cent while Independent candidate Catherine Connolly was next on 22 per cent. These two are the only candidates who appear at this stage to have secured the nominations required to appear on the ballot paper.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, who has not ruled out a presidential run, was on 20 per cent.
Prof Holohan was on 15 per cent and former taoiseach Bertie Ahern – who has been among those speculated on as a potential Fianna Fáil candidate – was also on 15 per cent.
Asked about the polling, Prof Holohan said he has been “greatly encouraged” by people contacting him and suggesting he should run.
“Some supporters arranged for this limited piece of research and I was aware it was taking place. The results are encouraging, especially as I have not declared my candidacy,” he said.
Ha! Polling the same as Bertie and he reckons the results are encouraging. Deluded. This is not like Covid where we can all be relied upon to do as we're told Tony!

Could it really be that, after all that has happened, 15% of rational adults see Ahern as a suitable head of state? This can only, hopefully, be what's left of the FF core vote.

People are stupid enough to pick either of them for president. And then we wonder why we are where we are. FFS people wake up out there.
Well, I suppose people are stupid to vote for anyone with a bit of celebrity about them, like that bint Ni Murchú. Apart from the air-brained task of presenting the Eurovision, along, it must be said, with another air-brain, what has she contributed to this country?

Cervical check Tony aka quango chancer is the poisoned pauper, Bertie will struggle to gain traction based on tainted brand. George Mitchell usurped the latter intellectually. Both callous individuals deluded into thinking name recognition will gain any momentum. Thankfully we are not imbued with goldfish memories, their public evisceration should bury notions of relevance in finality.

The Irish Times sticking the boot into Gareth Sheridan for the second day in a row. He’s definitely not an establishment-approved candidate, that’s for sure.
I see he is being introduced by Sharon Keogan to councils. Not a great connection in my opinion. She's a very backwards looking politician for a young person to be connected with.
Tony H has it sown up now. Word is Leo put in a call as he owes him a favour from COVID times and wants him protected by the office if an enquiry happens when the next govt comes in.

Why would he be afraid of an enquiry. Historically at any enquiry , tribunal, or whatever you want to call it, there have been more lies told at them, than alcohics tell at a pioneer meeting. And the electorate just have to suck it up, same as usual.
Hi folks ,just transferred over from the farside ,ye I think if Mary lou went for it ,she'd be a shoe in ,Bertie definitely not imagine the international headline ,Former Irish prime minister suspected of corruption elected President..

It's strange, the IT has yet another hit piece on Sheridan today - it's getting a little weird now. Wonder who he's offended in the IT? Is the fact that (democratically elected) Sharon Keogan is introducing him to councils? It is worrying if the "paper of record" is so petty and biased that they will set out to scupper a candidate because of a tenuous connection to a democratically elected representative, because that representative isn't woke enough.
The hit pieces are very long on insinuations, and short on facts - for instance today's one presents the fact that those involved with his company from the start own a large percentage of the shareholding, something that is extremely common in startups, but the IT makes it sound like some sort of scam. They also repeat the insinuations that his business partners are best buddies with Putin. Compare and contrast this to their puff pieces on Holohan and the plethora of potential FG candidates. Sheridan better hope SF run a candidate so at least some of the IT's ire is directed elsewhere.
