Irish Indo reporting standards

#1

Post by Flyguy »

I've just read the report in the Indo about a pair of drag queens being assaulted in Cork. They were on the street late at night, in full regalia, filming some kind of TikTok video, when they were both kicked from behind by a guy. The assault then escalated into a beating by a gang of guys, and bystanders all stood by jeering.
That's more or less the sum of the detail provided by the Indo.

The article refers to a video of the assault being available online.
I've already seen this video - it's all over the internet, even outside Ireland. The BIG detail that the Indo excluded jumps right out at you when you see it. The assaults were carried out by blacks. The initial assault, and ther gang who attacks and beats them - all are blacks. The 'bystanders' are all blacks.
The thing I find outrageous about this Indo report is it makes it sound like the assaults were carried out by random Irish people, and a random group of Irish people stood by and laughed, which is NOT the case. This is important, because the article leaves that detail out intentionally, and regular Irish readers might well tend to think 'what a load of scumbags those Cork knackers are'.
In fact it's the Indo which is the scumbag here. If you've ever been involved in anything newsworthy and later read reports of it in the Indo, you'll already know that's a fact. They twist and spin their reports all the time, always siding with The Establishment against whichever poor sods they're slandering in that rag.
Avoid it.
