They’ve been threatening boards with legal action….

To make it clear, I work for the law firm representing boards.ie. Late last night a colleague from another firm contacted me to inform me of action being initiated by third parties against this site and a user of this site for defamatory comments, both recent and historical. My account does not have administrative privileges so I cannot close threads or site ban. I have contacted the site administrators to have the necessary actions taken in anticipation of documents arriving in the morning.

I would urge users to be circumspect in what they post from now on until this thread is closed in the morning and the user banned. Unfortunately I must go to bed now as I am in court in the morning.

If it is though it would be an interesting test case.

Reddit is very popular among the young and lots of stuff gets said there, much more unrestrained than general forums. Not to mention other wildly weird platforms like TikTok. Corporations and governments are just not going to be able to control what people say - though they are certainly starting to try - as everyone has a global publishing device in their hands now.

I've been dipping in and out of this thread and I agree its blatantly oblivious who has instigated these attacks. and it an utter disgrace. They have even been called out on the thread.
