"Ireland appoints first Honorary Consul to Delaware" - Cushy jobs for the boys

Delaware is a tiny, unremarkable and insignificant state. Equivalent to Carlow. We already have Honorary Consuls in San Diego, Denver, Orlando, Miami, New Orleans, St. Louis, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Charleston, Houston and Seattle. This is on top of the Embassy in Washington DC and Consulates General in NYC, LA, San Francisco, Austin, Boston, Chicago and Atlanta! Ireland is a tiny country. Do we really need so many paid representatives over there along with their staff, office rent, and expenses? This isn't the 1800s anymore. There are not that many first generation Irish in America these days due to difficulties in acquiring visas. Irish youngsters tend to head to Canada and Australia. Then I read this part of the article and it all made sense. From https://www.rte.ie/news/2021/1203/12646 ... re-consul/:
Brian McGlinchey was prominently involved in the 'Joe Biden for President’ campaign
Ah, so an Irish hack helped the senile geriatric get into the White House and is now getting rewarded for his loyalty. I think I'll donate a few quid during the next US presidential election and request an Honorary Consul appointment to Honolulu, Hawaii. Doesn't matter that there are no Irish people there. Irish taxpayer will foot the bill, naturally.

The clue is in the title, 'Honorary'. It literally means unpaid.

They have a MAXIMUM expense allowance of €1,125 per year. Not sure how many staff they'll get for that. :roll:login to view the rest of this post
