No racism or hate speech. Attack the post not the poster. Don't be a dick.

I don’t debate with people who clearly want to destroy a race of people from no other basis than bigotry.
Then just putting them on ignore is the best option.
ceannairceach wrote: ↑Fri Aug 22, 2025 5:42 pmWould you allow openly racist posters putting up dozens orf stories about why Nigerians are evil ?
I wouldn't allow anything that I believe to be openly racist. Context is everything. I didn't see anything anti-semitic in the post you reported, so I didn't take any action. If you think I missed something and you want to be more specific about why it is anti-semitic please do spell it out and I will take another look at it.
I don't think it is a good idea to close a thread on one of the biggest current affairs stories in the world right now because criticism of Israel is interpreted by some as anti-semitic. There is inevitably going to be some harsh criticism of Israel given the context.
And I would take the same view if somebody complained about posts describing the Palestinian or Hamas actions towards Israel as evil.
I have to admit that I had forgotten about this site until recently.
Question for the admin/mod, have you seen an increase in users and traffic recently?
Unfortunately I think boards is circling the drain. And it’s a pity. I only joined there years ago because a site that I HAD been on (Dangerhere.com, which had a relatively small user base, a good few genuinely funny wums, but a bloody good site for sport posts) was killed by some Turkish lads who got in and fecked the place up, but I have to admit I enjoyed my time on boards. It was a decent place to go and waste a few hours in its heyday

Huge amount of increase in traffic, relatively small increase in users.
I guess people come and have a look around given the current situation on boards, then something puts them off registering, can't think what that might be!

You are sadly missing my point.
Context is indeed everything and this thread is one poster constantly going out of their way to find anti Israel posts, most that are complete fabrication.
It is nothing more than a Hamas propaganda thread now. You have seen that others will not post there.
We need a thread to discuss the Middle East with balanced posting but while that deeply anti semitic poster is given free rein to pollute the thread no one will post.

It's their opinion and it's called free speech, if you don't like it prove it wrong or ignore it.
There are other places if you're looking for censorship in an echo chamber

Again the best way to discuss the situation with balanced posting is for posters who disagree to provide the balance and counter arguments.
I'm really not missing your point, you're not the first to label that thread/poster/posts, I've been down this exact same road before and lost one of our most valued posters because of it.
If you think the posts are anti semitic or a complete fabrication please point out the detail of the problem, either by engaging in reasoned argument on thread, or by reporting the offending post with the reasons it is anti-semitic etc and I'll look at it again more closely.
But I can't lock a thread or ban a poster simply on the strength of a sweeping accusation of anti-semitism. Please be more specific as to what you consider to be the problem.
Anyone else getting random cloudflare verification screens? Seems to happen every other day. Not the end of the world but it does seem buggy - - getting stuck in a constant loop of asking for verification.

Apologies, cloudflare protection mode is being turned on and off regularly at the minute, as we're inundated with spam bots, and it keeps slowing the site down. I'm looking into a better solution.

Just on this, I’m all for reasoned debate and counter argument, but for reasoned debate and counter arguments the two opposing people need to be open to having their opinions changed. That doesn’t happen.
And I don’t mean just here, I mean everywhere. I don’t think people in general are able to have reasonable debates anymore, they are so entrenched in their position of I’M RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG that they cannot enter into the spirit of a good old fashioned conversation anymore.

Just seen the reply to him - that will help, the constant link dumps from dubious sources should hopefully be reduced.

I joined in the last month or so- it’s “quiet” relatively speaking - many threads don’t move much- I guess if boards closed down this might be an alternative given its functionality and similar interface - I can’t see it “taking off” as long as boards.ie exists for as we know, boards itself is struggling- but you’d want to be ready for the onslaught of new registrations if it does close

Problem I think we have, whether boards closes or not, is there will be very few new registrations on this site as long as it keeps the reputation for being predominantly a place to go to bitch about boards!
Even though the increase in new posters in relatively small, I feel the standard of debate and discussion has improved. Previously the majority of posts on this site were by one poster. Which is seldom good. Now there is a bit more back and forth and debate happening which is a much needed improvement.
I know of at least two current Boardsie members who are trying to register with this platform but have had no success yet.
Any suggestions to speed up registration?
Thanks

I wouldn’t worry too much about that - you’ve one thread dedicated to bad stuff boards- fair enough - most joining from boards will likely post there first, as I did- really it’s about new posters then moving on and getting contributing on the wider site

Since you previously mentioned this I've turned off the manual activation of new accounts so people can register instantly and validate themselves.
Flip side of that is I had to install a spam protection measure which can be overly aggressive and blocks people who are not supposed to be blocked.
Pointless to have user activated registrations and no spam protection or we'd be overrun with spam accounts in a few hours.
There is no obvious sign of your two acquaintances in the pending column, but the easiest way to know for sure is if they email me or use the contact form.

I did this when my registration was pending and it got sorted quite quickly. I think it was my VPN that had caused troubles, so this might cause issues for new regs.
That cloudflare thing is still preventing me accessing the site mainly down to the VPN, I would assume , even though an Irish IP. I can access access is via mobile, non VPN. It's not just this website though. Let's say I can access boards.ie BUT if I click the hyperlink about how much money they've raised(or not raised really) in the banner. I cannot open that link either.
This might be important really for yourself as when I first registered here it was fine but then it occurred, as I see why you implemented it due to bots. For a less tech savvy person now if they cannot access they might assume either the website never existed OR dismantled. Mostly people aren't on VPNs but for myself 9-5 I'm locked to a VPN unless I force disable the programme which can raise IT eyebrows.

You're spot on re the ethos of prove it wrong or ignore it.
But please refrain from the off to boards with you stuff!
Just wondering whether the 'prove it wrong or ignore it ' is a site wide rule? Can anyone post anything they wish and posters have to prove it wrong? Should posters actually prove what they are posting?
Or are there certain posts that have to be 'proved'
There appears to be some inconsistencies in relation to this and I would like clarification as to the exact rules?
Also, is it normal not to be taken to the last post in a thread? Even threads that I have painted in I am brought to the first page and have to go to different pages to find the last relevant post?

Why does this have to be complicated?
If someone claims something and nobody has an issue then there is no problem. If a claim is being contested both sides should provide rationale or evidence of their sources, or just admit that there is no proof. Problem solved. I somehow can’t see the problem with this one?

The rule is don't be a dick. That basically covers everything. The advice in interpreting the rule is if in doubt whether or not you're being a dick, err on the side of caution.
I get that's not exactly precise, but that's by design rather than accident as initially posters will more often than not be given the benefit of the doubt, and I can see how that might come across as inconsistent.
Is this related to the raping and murdering of children thing, or is there something else you need clarified?
Perhaps it would simplest if you specify where you have seen the inconsistencies and I will clarify the thinking behind the apparent inconsistencies.
