Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

Never mind retrofitting, we don't seem to be able to build in the first place:- https://www.irishtimes.com/business/economy/2026/03/12/future-housing-supply-under-threat-after-new-builds-fall-by-more-than-75/ Apparently housing starts fell to 16,000 last year, down 75% (and 84% in Dublin). Well now, who could have possibly seen this coming?

No charges for Denis O'Brien arising from the phone license debacle.

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

I get seen within a week, or sooner if its needed in the south. But that said two weeks is the norm in the north, as my elderly parents can unhappily attest. In addition, there is considerable discussion uk wide about charging for GP visits in an attempt to reduce the number of unneeded visits. TLDR...

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

An interesting document, with some very sensible actions laid out. It is, inevitably, weakest when it comes to the subvention. As I say, inevitably. It set me wondering what the future in a new Ireland would be for the SDLP. They're already facing challenges at the polls, and you could see some of ...

Oh, ok sir, yes sir, three bags full sir. I'm so looking forward to being a second class citizen in my own country. Any tips on how to approach it? Oooooh the drama - second class citizen is it now? On what basis do you flag that from something no one has said and from a document your steadfastly r...

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

You don't need a crystal ball to know that the seat of government isn't going to be moving from "the little dunghill of Leinster House." I am not interested in the SDLPs opinions . I live and vote in the Republic of Ireland. So do I. And you should be interested, becausr whatever is comin...

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

I think I've been pretty restrained in response to your posts. All I've done, light-heartedly to begin with I might add, is pointed out you're jumping the gun somewhat. It's good to know, all the same, the opinion you hold of the political system you want to join because if it happens it isn't goin...

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

The OP was about the phrase the "new republic," it was a part of the recent Presidential campaign in the Republic. While it didn't preclude the North, it also wasn't explicitly about a border poll. The OP made that suggestion but it is by no means a done deal. At present , the Republic of...

Re: A 'movement' for a 'new republic'

I wasn't responding to it. I was responding to your comment. I don't have to read it, agree with it or disagree with it, to point out the obvious which is that at present the SDLP are not part of the decision-making process in the Republic of Ireland. I'm guessing you don't understand that the prem...
