The problem with picnic is that most people who go dont even go for the acts, they just go to get off their face in a field full of other people.
That said, EP do get great acts sometimes, but it's gotten worse over the years - almost all concerts in Ireland have in that regard.

Re: Electric picnic.
Picnic makes too much money, the organisers would surely be looking to run it again next year. I think Laois CoCo's hands were tied - they had to make a decision based on present public health advice which stupidly has a 500 capacity limit for events. Since Govt have not given any definitive dates f...

Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
You're missing my point, if that situation I outlined was to arise the price of houses would be the least of our problems. A civil war will not occur unless outside influences try to stir unrest. Moreoften that not thats how these things happen. The GFA outlines the procedure for reunification - if...

Re: Who will you vote for at the next General Election?
SF but not because I have faith in them - because the only way to get FF/FG to see sense on some positions is to have a very real risk of them not being in power at all. Housing is a good example - up until recently the mantra was let the market fix it (except for all FGs market interventions which ...

Re: Electric picnic.
The vaccine is available to all. That's not really the point - its that you have to take a novel vaccine with emergency approval only in order to participate. Vaccine was initially given emergency approval because risk/reward was there for vulnerable people who would otherwise have been at serious ...

Welcome to the 2 tier society. The new normal.
Either take a vaccine for a virus with a 99%+ survival rate, or be excluded from every aspect of society.

Re: Ireland among ‘top five nations’ to survive collapse of civilisation
Most people in this country can barely cook for themselves, nevermind grow their own food. You would think given the high % of one off homes in countryside that we'd have plenty of home growers here, but the reality is most people in this country are absolutely useless and totally dependent on payin...

Re: Homophobia increase?
As time has gone on a certain cohort have been looking to push the boundaries of whats acceptable - drag shows for kids, encouraging kids to transition at an early age, and pushing sexual "education" material to children - and it's all done under the wide reaching banner of LGBTQ+. This st...

Re: Property Market chat thread
Im hoping to buy before the year is out so a price crash would be most welcome, how likely do people think this could happen, 20% chance? 1% chance maybe We were in crisis before - they selling delays due to covid & extra savings have just compounded this. It will be a long time before things s...

Re: Labour Party
Agreed - Labour copied their UK counterparts and went for a more middle-class vibe.
Right now they are indistinguishable in policy from the Greens/SocDems with a touch of FG in there.
Genuine question - what do Labour stand for? What is their marquee proposal or policy that makes them stand out?

Re: Is Ireland's housing crisis a myth?
Almost 50% of renters receive HAP or rent supplement. !!! Wow I didnt think it would be anywhere near 50% - the market is certainly distorted by this then. I assumed like 15-20% max (excl social housing). Will they ever cut back on HAP etc? I cant see it happening, it would be political suicide des...

Re: Is Ireland's housing crisis a myth?
The only way to explain the fact that we have, by some distance, the highest cost of housing in the EU, but are well below average in terms of housing cost overburden is that the overburden figures include the huge subsidies paid for out housing by the government. And these figures are from 2019. T...

Re: No Longer 'just a private company'?
I agree - some things you should be able to express any opinion (within reason) without fear of censorship - transgender issue and the potential impacts they may have on people are a definite area where not enough research or discussion has been allowed happen - and there is considerable doubt as to...

Re: No Longer 'just a private company'?
The problem with censorship is the choice of who gets to be the censor.
They almost always will censor according to their own biases, rather than objective truth.*
*Does objective truth even exist?

Functioning LAs for one - currently ours do next to nothing, its all done by Government instead. Most centralized govt in all of Europe I believe.

Re: Are you afraid of Global Warming?
Lot of things potentially creating a perfect storm. Climate change, eco collapse (particularly insects, which we do need) and a looming top soil crisis. I agree totally - but most eco collapse is due to intensive farming practices rather than any temperature or weather pattern changes. IMO that and...

Re: Is Ireland's housing crisis a myth?
We absolutely have a housing crisis - its multi-factorial but the largest factor is housing being used as a store of wealth. Investment funds & joe soap keeping houses empty and using them as stores of wealth. We also need a proper derelict/vacant unit tax in this country too, in addition to vac...
